AAJA-LA was proud to sponsor Nicholas Corral and Emilie Takahashi this year as participants in the AAJA Voices multimedia journalism fellowship, which culminated in the AAJA national convention in Minneapolis in June.
Corral is a journalism major and rising senior at USC. This summer, he is working at the Los Angeles Times through the AAJA-LA/Los Angeles Times Henry Fuhrmann copy editing internship. For his Voices project, Corral wrote about how California aid organizations have adapted their cultural outreach strategies to Asian communities in response to growing fears of Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests.
Takahashi is a literary journalism major and rising senior at UC Irvine. She also serves as AAJA-LA’s student board representative. For her Voices project, Takahashi wrote about the complicated cultural struggles Japanese Americans have faced in moving to Japan for a more affordable life.
