The award-winning investigative news organization Capital & Main is seeking an intern to play an active role in our 16-person newsroom.
This part-time, paid internship starting in September 2026 offers the opportunity to work inside a Los Angeles-based newsroom focused on inequality, climate change, racial justice, immigration and other pressing issues.
The intern will work 15 hours a week over five months reporting on Asian American communities and immigrant communities. Their work will be published by Capital & Main and other partner news organizations.
Preference will be given to applicants invested in or interested in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and who have ties to Southern California. During the 20-week internship, they will also have the opportunity to contribute original reporting and writing on other topics within our priority coverage areas.
The intern will work closely with editors and reporters, and will be required to work remotely, in the field or from Capital & Main’s Los Angeles office depending on the needs of the day. The intern should have access to a car or other reliable transportation to travel to assignments in Southern California.
Applicants should have experience in news or feature or investigative reporting, a desire to learn from and contribute to an independent nonprofit newsroom. The ideal candidate will also have photography, video or audio skills.
This position is funded by a grant from the Asian American Journalists Association, Los Angeles Chapter and pays $20 per hour with a $1,500 scholarship. Interns will be matched with a newsroom mentor and receive a free AAJA membership.
