Convention goers!
AAJA-LA is offering chapter members a limited number of free rooms at the 2018 National Convention in Houston, Aug. 8 to 12! We’ve rented a terrific Airbnb townhome in Houston’s East Downtown neighborhood, less than a mile from the convention site. The space sleep 10 (definitely more if you really want to get cozy). Don’t expect a lot of privacy in AAJA-LA’s humble abode, but the price is right and, who knows, it might be fun!
Last year, we had a great time in the Airbnb in Philadelphia, getting dinner and drinks together, sightseeing and generally enjoying the hell out of Philadelphia. We are going to do the same in Houston!
The spots will be provided first to scholarship winners, followed by current board and advisory board members, current AAJA-LA student members, and then full members.
Airbnb: 1117 Palmer St., Houston. 3 stories, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, lots of air mattresses. Beds will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. About 13 blocks to the convention site.
1) Apply for a spot by sending an email to ashley.dunn@latimes.com with the subject line: AAJA-LA home-away-from-home. Be sure to include your name, age and membership category.
2) Deadline is Sunday, July 8. Those selected are encouraged to attend LA chapter events at the convention and volunteer at this year’s Trivia Bowl on Oct. 19 at the Nishi Hongwanji Temple in Little Tokyo.
3) If selected, there is an $80 deposit to hold a reservation – refunded on arrival.
