Vietnamese American beauty school owners talk immigration

Attendees get manicures, pedicures after panel

To mark 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, the Asian American Journalist Association – Los Angeles hosted an event with Advanced Beauty College on Friday, Nov. 7 in Garden Grove.

Advanced Beauty College owners Tan and Linh Nguyen shared their family’s story of building a multi-generational business in Little Saigon from the ground up after their family immigrated to the U.S.

Vietnamese Americans now own 80% of nail and beauty salons in California. The panel, moderated by AAJA-LA board member Anh Do, delved into news coverage of the evolving sector. Tan and Linh talked about immigration to the U.S. and entrepreneurship.

After the panel, attendees enjoyed some dinner and beauty services by the Advanced Beauty College students. People got manicures and pedicures while catching up with other AAJA-LA members and learning more about the school.
